In the words of Justin Timberlake in ‘SexyBack’: Break it down, c’mon.
Yes, in this issue we’re breaking down the last ten years: the sounds, words, tech and whatever else we could get our filthy hands on.
We’ll be back on 4 January with shithot content, fresh new ideas and our own political manifesto (joke) to start 2020 with a bang. You might want to tell your friends about it. Freya and Alex
What Alex has been up to this week: Enthusiastically dragged himself to a midnight showing of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It didn’t disappoint.
What Freya has been up to this week: Unenthusiastically dragged herself to a 5pm showing of Last Christmas, with nothing but a beer for company. It did disappoint, but the tasty IPA helped.

Our favourite albums of the 2010s…
At the turn of the decade Alex was a hardcore blink-182 fan, with no shame at knowing all the words to the rap in California Gurls by Katy Perry (he still does). Freya was crying to James Blunt.
We like to think that we’ve developed in the way of musical taste since then. We’ll also allow you to be the judge of that.
From noise rock to reggae, and everything in between, we’ve put together a list of our favourite albums from the last ten years. Enjoy. Alex and Freya

The best books of the last decade…
Our initial line-up of books for this section was right on the cusp of the three-page mark. We’ve done the honourable thing and narrowed it down for you, with a neat little spread of genres, from dystopian fiction about a lawless society to the first great Brexit novel, via a recalibration of the science world to a work of fiction with a poetic dramatic chorus.
Intrigued? Yep, we thought so. These are a few titles you might want to jot down for when you’re searching through the shelves at your local library, trying not to make eye contact with the questionably scented chap who keeps glancing at you from the graphic novel section. Freya and Alex

The History of PC Music, the most exhilarating record label of the 2010s by Selim Bulut for Dazed Digital
With the invention of the internet, piecing together the rise of a new music movement has become an increasingly difficult task.
AG Cook is the founder of PC Music, a record label that distanced itself from the formulaic model of pop production, distribution and seriousness. As chief producer, and largely responsible for the label’s distinctive futuristic pop sound, he helped elevate the careers of Charli XCX, GFOTY and Hannah Diamond, as well as cultivating a new queer music scene online.
PC Music’s unconventional rise and subsequent impact on the global pop landscape is something to be admired, and thankfully Selim Bulut has written this excellent article outlining its success (because we were scratching our heads on where to start). The music is banging, too. Alex

Top 100 Gadgets of the Decade by The Verge
While the decade ahead may bring tighter internet restrictions, scarily accurate deepfake videos, more social media networks, election interferences and the iPhone 20, the last 10 years have a hell of a lot of innovation to show for itself.
The staff at the ever wonderful The Verge have meticulously rounded up their 100 gadgets from the decade in this article. It’s safe to say, we’ve come a long way since the Blackberry. Alex and Freya

Katy Hill’s Winter Cookbook: Smoked Haddock Kedgeree
It’s time for the final instalment of the wonderful Katy Hill’s recipe series for The Noiseletter. Save the page to your bookmarks. You’ll be needing it for when you’re poor — both economically and nutritionally — in the weeks ahead.
This dish could almost be considered healthy, but in the depths of December who cares. This is basically a low-maintenance risotto with fewer rules. Tasty.

Alex feels like there isn’t room in his wardrobe for any more clothes. Enter stage left this overshirt from Wax London. Besotted.
You bitchez are always asking where Freya’s exceptional raincoat is from. Today’s the day she tells you. And lets you know that they’re now on sale.

The Vogue editors have written a piece on where they’ll be spending Christmas, making us wonder how much they really earn…
Here’s another hilarious review from The Guardian. Last time it was Liam Payne, this time it’s Cats.
